Certification Examination
To practice Respiratory Therapy in Nova Scotia and use the designation Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) you must be licensed by the Nova Scotia Regulator of Respiratory Therapy.
Graduates of a respiratory therapy education program accredited by Accreditation Canada can become a registrant of the NSRRT and hold a graduate license, which allows them to practice under supervision. They must successfully complete the national certification examination administered by the Healthcare Professionals Testing Canada (HPTC) within 18 months of their graduation to receive an active practice license.
The National Alliance of Respiratory Therapy Regulatory Bodies National Competency Framework directs all skills and knowledge tested on the examinations produced by the HPTC for entry to practice. For further information regarding the HPTC examination or to apply, go to www.hptc.ca.
